COP28 Recap: Empowering a future generation of resilient children

We’re excited to share a brief recap of the three impactful sessions COPE hosted during COY18 and COP28, each dedicated to empowering children and youth for resilience through disaster risk reduction (DRR) education.

Our session held at COY18 highlighted the importance of early education in equipping young people to tackle climate disasters. We delved into the critical role of children in Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), emphasizing preparedness and diverse facets of DRR education, shedding light on climate disasters’ disproportionate impact on young people. Beyond the pages of our books, the session at the Children and Youth Pavilion explored innovative ideas and strategies to enhance disaster resilience in a 30-minute capacity-building session. It was an opportunity to share, learn, and contribute to shaping a more resilient future. Watch the session here.

Creator and Author Martha Keswick shared insights on effective communication of DRR and early warnings. The panel discussed topics such as understanding values in climate decisions, leveraging social media for early warnings, and addressing disinformation challenges. Watch the session here.

Thank you for being part of this vital conversation aimed at creating a resilient future for our children.
