Empowering Children Through COPE Flood Community Activity in Malaysia
We’re happy to share the success of the recent COPE Flood Community Activity in Tanjong Malim, Malaysia. This event, a collaboration between the National Child Development Research Centre (NCDRC), the Pendidikan Sultan Idris University (UPSI), and local partners, celebrated National Children’s Day in Perak, Malaysia.
The activity was led by Dr Masayu Dzainudin and Dr Iylia Dayana Shamsudin to empower children, particularly those from indigenous communities, with vital knowledge about flood preparedness. Thanks to funding from the State of Perak Secretary, specifically from the office of Exco of Women, Family and Community Welfare (SUK PERAK), COPE books in Banjir and flood kits were provided for the children.
Children were captivated by engaging readings from the COPE Flood book and actively participated in discussions, sharing their flood experiences. The organizers emphasized essential safety measures through storytelling and interactive sessions, fostering empowerment and resilience among the young participants.
Through this inspiring initiative, the organizers aimed to equip children with the knowledge and skills to stay safe and prepared in disasters.
