COPE Stories Reach Learners and Community Schools in Egypt

COPE Disaster Champions stories on climate change are helping children and educators in Egypt learn about disaster risks and preparedness through engaging digital platforms.

Data from the UNICEF Egypt Learning Passport shows strong engagement with the COPE Stories courses, which are available in Arabic, English, and animated formats. Across the platform, three courses featuring COPE stories have attracted over 600 registrations, with 131 learners completing at least one course.

Among the most completed lessons are stories focused on key hazards such as Earthquakes, Floods, and Heatwaves, reflecting the growing interest in disaster preparedness and climate awareness among young learners.

COPE content is also being used in community schools across Egypt through the Ministry of Education Learning Passport platform, which serves a network of 865 schools. In these schools, teachers often present the lessons to entire classes—typically 40 to 45 students at a time—meaning the real number of children reached is likely much higher than the registration data suggests.

Community schools in Egypt often bring together students of different ages in one classroom, making interactive storytelling tools like COPE particularly valuable for engaging diverse learners.

These results highlight the growing role of COPE stories as an accessible resource for climate education, helping teachers introduce disaster risk reduction concepts in classrooms and digital learning environments.

to groups, assigning each group a scene from the story, and having them build it with Legos. Shadowplay was also involved in animating the COPE squad, while earthquake prevention steps were also represented through a video clip at the learning hub.

The learning space caters to refugees of all nationalities, alongside Egyptians. Mona takes pride in being part of a community that aims to educate a resilient generation.
