Empowering Children in Nicaragua about volcanoes
We are delighted to share an exciting update from the ongoing efforts to empower children with crucial knowledge about disaster preparedness. Our book “Volcanoes” was recently introduced in Nicaragua in a preschool called “Los Carlitos,” located in the southwest part of Managua (Pochocuape community); Mrs Maria Perez, a volunteer teacher, has been educating children under the age of six to read and write and also helps them to learn about nature and natural hazards. The introduction of our book “Volcanes” has provided a fantastic tool for her to educate the children about volcano preparedness.
The children engaged with the book through hands-on activities; the students learned about the different types of volcanic eruptions, the warning signs of an imminent eruption, and the necessary steps to take before, during, and after such an event.
Special Thanks to Professor Tamsin Mather and David Pyle from Oxford University and José Armando Ceballos from the University of Edinburgh for all the support and for sending the books to Mrs María Pérez.
